The Gordon Family today |
THE DESCENDANTS OF HUGH GORDON OF MANAR Many families can track their descent from Hugh Gordon of Manar and his grandfather Peter Gordon of Haddoch. So far on the family tree of Gordons descended from these men we have identified 1151 individuals (including those who have died, but not counting their spouses, though they are also listed because they are our family too). About 400 of these known descendants are still alive, but there are many more who we have not discovered. If we look at the millenial generation, named Generation 49 on the family tree - contemporary cousins - there are 284 cousins in that generation, and a further 111 who have been born in Generation 50, mostly since the year 2000. These individuals born from 2000 onwards are listed as 'sons' or 'daughters' but are not named until they are 18. Starting from Generation 41 (Peter Gordon and his wife Bessie) the numbers discovered per generation are as follows: Generation 42 = 8 descendants. Generation 43 (including Hugh Gordon of Manar, Inverurie) = 34 descendants. Generation 44 (including Hugh Gordon of Manar, Australia) = 47 descendants. Generation 45 = 108 descendants. Generation 46 = 187 descendants. Generation 47 = 173 descendants. Generation 48 = 194 descendants. Generation 49 (the millenials) = 284 descendants. Generation 50 (mostly born since the year 2000) = 111 descendants known so far. Generation 51 = 3 descendants so far. I am indebted to Mac Gordon and Simon Kelleher for the work on the Gordons in Australia. I am also indebted to my cousin Barbara Dundas (nee Gordon) in Western Australia for her tireless research. We would welcome contact, news and family updates from anyone about the Manar Gordon family. You are very welcome to use the email at the foot of the page. I am always grateful for photos, memories, stories, internet links, and biographies. Over the years many people have contacted me and added information and archives, and I am very grateful for these. You will also find, below, the main family lines descending from Hugh Gordon of Manar. By clicking on the links you can go direct to particular branches of the family. In addition, from the homepage there is a link direct to the 'Australian Gordons' descended from Hugh Gordon (the son of Hugh Gordon of Manar, Aberdeenshire) who emigrated to Australia to found a new Manar near Braidwood in New South Wales. His story is detailed, and the huge family that is descended from him. This website is a work in process, and collaboration (and more family historians) are very much welcome as we try to preserve and maintain historical fact for future members of our family to inherit and pass on.
